A new udon concept in London opening early 2016

Tak Tokumine, CEO of Japan Centre and Shoryu Ramen, is delighted to announce plans for a new concept udon house, Ichiryu, to launch in London early 2016.

Ichiryu has secured one site on New Oxford Street – official opening in early 2016. Founded by the team behind Japan Centre and Shoryu, Ichiryu will be the younger sister to Shoryu Ramen.

Ichiryu’s menu offerings will include traditional Japanese udon, sushi and sides with a modern twist and a focus on the umami flavor – perfectly suited to health conscious City dwellers, families and tourists alike.

The menu will offer a wide range of light and healthy udon, chilled or hot, served with a large variety of freshly prepared toppings.

The interior will be designed by Blenheim ( to convey fun, vibrant and inviting surroundings. Ichiryu will offer both takeout and dine-in options with a relaxed seating area. It will also feature an open kitchen, creating a transparent atmosphere and showcasing the chefs at work using the freshest of ingredients.

Both the CEO Tak Tokumine and the Executive Chef Kanji Furukawa are from the region of Hakata in Japan, which is where udon originated.

A successful entrepreneur and a key figure in the ethnic food market, Tak gained invaluable business skills working for his family’s steel mill in Fukuoka, before marrying and settling in the UK in 1975. Opening the first Japan Centre on London’s 5 Warwick Street W1 in 1976, the Japan Centre has become one of the most influential Japanese stores in the UK and Europe.
