PRAISE BE(EF)! The biggest day in the burger calendar has finally arrived! Mr Hyde’s National Burger Day is BACK and the food and drink PR world is buzzing with excitement as the London restaurant scene is flooded with drool-worthy offerings from the finest patty flipping joints in town.
Our Instagram feeds have blown up with brioche buns, oozing cheese, pulled pork and patty perfection and we’re not complaining! All over the capital, restaurants have been spending the last few weeks concocting monstrous towers of meat for the frenzied burger-loving cult, who by now are practically frothing at the mouth with anticipation. You can get 20% off burgers from over 1000 eateries today, but the real question is – where do you start?! Fear not, my child, you’ve come to the right place. We’ve round up three of the best burgers around to appease your saliva glands.
Jackson + Rye
First up, this bad boy from American soul food joint and whiskey bar, Jackson + Rye. Reader, meet Lock & Loaded, Lock & Loaded, meet Reader. A perfectly sizzled beef patty is smothered with smoky tomato relish, iceberg lettuce, gooey American cheese, sliced gherkin, fresh chilli and – the pièce de résistance – not one, but TWO slices of 18 hour smoked brisket. All served up with triple cooked fries and chipotle mayo. Be still my beating heart.
Waterloo’s swishest all day dining destination, Florentine, who recently wowed the London restaurant PR world with the breakfast to end all breakfasts – a mega ostrich egg fry up – have produced a burger to blow brunch out of the park. This is the ‘Punchy Brunchy’- an 8oz beef patty topped with crispy pancetta, fried duck egg, avocado tempura and – wait for it – bloody mary mayonnaise (!), served up with hand cut chips. In other words, a heart attack in a brioche bun. But a damn delicious one nonetheless.
Galvin at Windows
Ever had a Michelin starred burger? Ever had one in the sky? Enter stage right – the one and only Galvin at Windows. If you’ve been lucky enough to find yourself on the 28th floor of the London Hilton on Park Lane before, you’ve probably been sitting down for a 7-course tasting menu. However, make a slight detour to the bar and you could chow down on their mini Scotch Beef, bacon and black truffle mayonnaise burger. With seared foie gras if you’re going the full 9 yards. FANCY.
So roll up your sleeves, undo your top button and prepare to worship once again at the altar of the burger gods.
We’ll see you on the other side.
