We enjoyed ourselves last night at the National Restaurant Awards held at the Hurlingham Club in Fulham. It was good to see The Square walk away with Wine List of the Year, it’s a tough list to beat for most other restaurants out there. But number 33 in the overall chart doesn’t seem fair for a restaurant that has been consistently brilliant for just shy of 25 years! The surprise of the night might just be that Barrafina Adelaide Street took the top spot (ahead of The Sportsman, The Ledbury, Gymkhana and the Hand & Flowers) – it was a little unclear as to whether the award was just for the new Adelaide Street site or for the original on Frith Street as well – if it was the former then it’s quite an achievement to go straight in at number one. Barrafina is one of your correspondents favourites and owners Sam & Eddie are friends so all the sweeter to see them at the top – richly deserved!
