Last night Me:Mo headed down to the Laine’s Pub company’s east-end beery treasure house, The People’s Park Tavern in Victoria Park. This was no ordinary visit though, we were there to celebrate the launch of their new tap room and off licence, somewhere which we’re sure is going to quickly become a place of pilgrimage for craft beer aficionados. The room offers a huge selection of beers from around that world and, as the title suggests, can be enjoyed there or taken away to drink at your leisure. We weren’t in the mood to head anywhere so got stuck into trying some the treats on offer, in a responsible manner of course. The line-up was put together by the pub’s resident beer geeks, pub manager Justin Hutton and brewer Sam Dickson and the range they’ve built is nothing short of mouth-watering. A few of favourites they mentioned to us include the Hitachino Espresso Stout – widely regarded as one of the best espresso stouts out there – Prancing Pony, one of the best small batch breweries out of Adelaide, Australia as well some fine brews from Three Boys and Yeastie Boys, two of the best craft breweries from New Zealand. We made our way through a fair few during the evening and we were in good company as the knowledgeable and enthusiastic crowd got down to the serious business of tasting rare craft brews in grand yet homely surroundings. Have to go back though, at least twice – once to carry on working our way through the beers and the second time to check out the cocktail bar The People’s Park Tavern have built in a shipping container in the garden. More news on that soon…
