The ‘Bat and Ball’ Pop-Up to Open at Westfield

Urban Pubs and Bar’s entrepreneurial duo Nick Pring and Malcolm Heap are to open the amazing ‘The Bat and Ball’, a 12,000 sq ft year-long pop up bar and café on the 14th December at Westfield, Stratford City where ping pong becomes an all day contest at last, and Westfield gets a ground-breaking bar. With some off beat help from their DPP (Director of Ping Pong) Ed Turner (previously Geronimo Inns), The Bat and Ball will feature a whole floor of Ping Pong tables, VIP Ping Pong rooms for private hire and a lounge bar and deli.

During the day The Bat and Ball will cater to shoppers and families serving up coffee, pizzas and delicious artisan deli snacks. By evening the space will transform into a lively bar for groups to share jugs of premium cocktails, craft beers and food boards accompanied by live DJ sets and the unmistakable sound of the incredibly addictive Ping Pong.

Located on the Street in Westfield, The Bat and Ball is split across two floors. The ground floor is for eating, drinking, people watching and getting lively between a large central bar and the deli counter. The first floor will play host to the Players Lounge, 10 Ping Pong tables and a gaming room for the Ping Pong aficionado and their supporters.

Nick Pring, owner of Urban Pubs and Bars comments “the Bat and Ball is a brand new space that gives Westfield a unique destination venue, for families, shoppers and groups of friends late into the evenings. I think the interior is stunning, boasting a relaxed and informal vibe, working in tandem with our signature premium quality drinks and food selection. Ping Pong –  you can’t go wrong – this will be a smash.”

The drinks list includes a range of cocktails for the well heeled, draught beers including some from the local Trumans and a range of forty bottled craft beers for the hipsters. Wines will be supplied by the most excellent Cave de Pyrennes.

Malcolm Heap, owner of Urban Pubs and Bars comments “our team will be serving up food snacks and meals throughout the day to cater for all tastes. The menu offers a breadth of all day grazing options to run alongside a curated craft beer selection and a more traditional pint of Trumans. We’re serving food all day to the many tastes and types on show at Westfield; which has just got hipper!”

To accompany their drink customers can choose from a wide range of bar snack food (£3.50) including sage and onion sausage rolls and roasted red pepper hummus with pitta bread or from a selection of cakes (£3) on display on the deli counter.

Lunchtime options will range from sourdough toasties (£5.00) including the Breakfast Toastie, filled with sweet cured bacon, egg, gruyere and brown sauce, to wraps (£5.00) with fillings including chorizo, chipotle and roasted red peppers. For those looking for something a little lighter there will also be a selection of salads (£7.50/£11.00) on offer including a roasted Mediterranean vegetables, quinoa, rosemary, confit garlic and shaved parmesan salad.

Also on the menu will be a range of homemade artisan pizzas (£7.50-£9.50), sharing platters including The Meaty (£22.00) which offers baby back ribs, sweet n smoky chicken wings, BBQ pulled pork, BBQ beans, potato wedges, buckets such as hot wings in hot sauce and a blue cheese dip (10 for £12) and side dishes including nachos (£7.50).

Dessert options include a chocolate brownie with hot chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream (£6.00) and three ice cream sundaes to choose from (£7.50) including honeycomb, salted caramel ice cream, caramel sauce, whipped cream.

Created in 2014 by ex Realpubs founders Nick Pring and Malcolm Heap, Urban Pubs and Bars is an independent company consisting of currently 8 venues across London, each unique and suited to their locality. Nick and Malcolm don’t do chains they do one offs. With an emphasis on finding the best sites in the capital, they have a passion for food and drink, and with The Bat and Ball, they are excited to create their first ‘games for the masses” concept.
