We know everyone’s talking about going OUT out right now but let’s not forget that sometimes you just need a quality home-cooked meal. As much as we love eating out (who doesn’t?!), we get real joy from spending some time in the kitchen too. Besides feeling quite accomplished when we crack a new recipe, it’s always great to have a few recipes up your sleeve for dinner parties. Our latest favourite comes from iconic Dim Sum restaurant, Tao Tao Ju, in the heart of Chinatown. Whether it’s for lunch or dinner, you’ll want to be bookmarking their Dry Fried Beef Ho Fun!
This Beef Ho Fun classic is an absolute staple when it comes to Chinese Dim Sum restaurants. The signature smoky flavour, incredibly tender beef and all the flavours tossed with the rice noodles – delicious. Tao Tao Ju has totally nailed the dish and we couldn’t be happier to have their recipe. Ready to get cooking?
Ingredients (for one serving):
Thinly sliced beef
60g fresh or dry ho fun noodles
150g onion (chopped into bite sized pieces)
Beansprouts spring onion (chopped into bite sized pieces)
Cooking oil
Sesame oil
Dark soy sauce
Light soy sauce
Salt
White pepper
Directions:
Preheat a wok or pan on high heat.
Coat the bottom of your pan in oil.
Add beef when oil is shimmering and cook through until you develop some colour on the beef. Set this to one side.
In the same pan, add your onions and beansprouts and cook until fragrant.
Cook the noodles according to packet instructions, drain, then add into the pan with the aromatic vegetables.
Add your beef back into the pan.
Add two teaspoons of dark soy sauce and, one teaspoon of light soy sauce and sesame oil to the pan. You can check for seasoning at this point and add salt and white pepper to taste.
Keep tossing the ingredients together to coat, serve piping hot and enjoy with a side of Tao Tao Ju’s signature chilli oil!
Don’t forget that if you want to achieve restaurant quality (if you’re a perfectionist) be sure to get the pan very hot and toss all your ingredients when cooking! Tao Tao Ju might make the best dry fried Beef Ho Fun in London but are you ready to come second?! If you give it a try, don’t forget to tag us, we’d love to see how you get along!
