Just a stone’s throw from Brixton Market, Karakana brings a fresh and exciting twist to Indian cuisine, re-inventing Indian comfort food as we know it! Influenced by North Indian and Pakistani cuisines, Karakana serves up a symphony of flavours in Brixton’s vibrant setting. Trust us, this is not one to miss! Try any one of the fragrant, creamy curries with a side of double fried chicken wings with mango, coconut and pomegranate Buffalo sauce. We couldn’t possibly mention Karakana without talking about their cocktail list, all carefully curated and beautifully presented. Our favourite is the Apricot Rose, made with gin, apricot liqueur, rose water and sugar syrup, delicately decorated with rose petals. If that hasn’t tickled your tastebuds, we’re not sure what will!
One of London’s oldest markets, Tooting Broadway is full of hidden gems! Tucked into the heart of the market you will find Bordelaise: a small, rustic French bistro serving critically acclaimed steaks and cocktails. Whether it’s a romantic dinner or a date with mates, the cosy, intimate and relaxed atmosphere makes it the perfect spot. Bordelaise source seasonal products only, but with the changing menu one thing always stays the same: the steaks. Whether your preference is flat iron, rump, or Cote de boeuf on the bone, it’s guaranteed to satisfy your cravings! Incomplete, of course, without the Bordelaise sauce, and a side of beef dripping fries. Pair with a Honey and Thyme Margarita and you’re good to go!
TOP TIP! Bordelaise do fantastic weeknight deals, so keep an eye out! And the good news is, you have all of Tooting Market’s many bars to choose from for the perfect end to the night.
Last but most certainly not least is Turnips, a family run fixture of Borough Market for over 30 years. Turnips centres around the knowledge that quality is the key to flavour, a fundamental philosophy to Chef Tomas Lidakevicius’ approach to seasonal cooking. Dining with Turnips never fails to excite, with a constantly changing tasting menu showcasing the exquisite fruit and vegetables sourced by Turnips for their produce concession. What’s more, each small plate has been meticulously paired with the perfect accompanying wines, so sit back and enjoy the experience! We can highly recommend the Wild mushroom Crepe, the Crown Prince Squash and Provence Black Fig and White Chocolate Tart for dessert, and we wait with bated breath to see what the next menu will entail….!
