Pizza Pilgrims has brought its Neapolitan-style pizzas to Wimbledon for the first time, opening on Wimbledon Hill Road on Tuesday 18th August 2026.
Designed to be a neighbourhood pizzeria as much as a destination, the new opening aims to become a hub for the local community, bringing people together over great pizza, events and shared experiences.
The new pizzeria embraces Pizza Pilgrims’ signature style, taking you straight to Naples, one slice at a time. Inside, diners are immersed in the vibrant sights, sounds and flavours of the city’s historic centre, without leaving the SW19 postcode.
Pizza lovers can sit in the heart of the action on the ground floor, inspired by the bustling, sun-bleached Neapolitan streetscape, where the aroma of freshly baked pizza and the buzz of an open kitchen recreate the energy of a traditional pizzeria.
Alternatively, they can head upstairs to the garden roof terrace, where the interiors evoke the Bay of Naples. The first-floor garden blooms year-round, complete with a pagoda and hand-painted mural, a giant olive tree, scattered lemons, and wisteria cascading across the walls.
With 104 seats indoors and an additional 18 outdoors, the Wimbledon pizzeria is led by long-time Pilgrim Elena Gentili. It has created 25 new front- and back-of-house roles for the local community.
Founded by brothers James and Thom Elliot, Pizza Pilgrims began with a 4,500km pilgrimage in 2011. Having quit their jobs, the pair travelled from the toe of Italy back to London in a three-wheeled Piaggio Ape, learning the craft of authentic Neapolitan pizza-making along the way. They returned to London in 2012, serving pizzas at the famed Berwick Street Market before opening their first permanent restaurant in Soho the following year.
The Wimbledon menu features Pizza Pilgrims’ signature Neapolitan-style pizzas, crafted with a 72-hour double-fermented dough made fresh daily and the finest Italian ingredients, including DOP (Denominazione di Origine Protetta) produce, reflecting the brand’s deep-rooted connection to Naples. Each pizza is baked at 500°C to create a light, chewy, charred crust, just like in Naples.
Fan favourites include the Margherita, Salsiccia e Friarielli, and sweet-and-salty Double Pepperoni with Spicy Honey, alongside more indulgent creations such as the 8 Cheese and Carbonara, topped with crispy strands of al dente spaghetti.
“We’re beyond chuffed to be bringing Pizza Pilgrims to Wimbledon. This idyllic slice of London has been on our hit list for a while, and we’re excited to finally become part of its vibrant community. We can’t wait to welcome locals in, serve up our Neapolitan pizzas and hopefully become a much-loved spot for the area.”
– James and Thom Elliot, Founders, Pizza Pilgrims

Like most good ideas, Pizza Pilgrims started in the pub in 2011. Street food was just taking off, and London was being treated to new and delicious food, all from the comfort of the pavement. Brothers James and Thom wanted in, and they wanted pizza. Traditional, unbelievably delicious Neapolitan pizza, to be precise. They decided to fly to the toe-end of Italy, pick up a three-wheel Piaggio Ape van and drive the 4,500km back to London, stopping off along the way at all the best pizza destinations. The Pilgrimage, as it became known, was born.
After learning all they could about the true art of pizza making, they began serving their pizza at London’s famed Berwick Street Market. The first permanent Pizza Pilgrims pizzeria launched in Soho in 2013, and they now have over 26 pizzerias across the UK, including Cardiff, Edinburgh, Manchester and Birmingham.
In 2023, the brothers revisited Naples on their iconic Pizza Vespa, reconnecting with the pizza masters who shaped their journey. This adventure was documented in the Pilgrimage II YouTube series.
In 2024, Pizza Pilgrims achieved B Corp certification, reaffirming its mission to ‘make people happier, one pizza at a time’. Sustainability and community are central to the brand’s vision for the future of hospitality.
In 2025, the brothers published Pizza Napoli, their most ambitious cookbook to date. Showcasing recipes, stories and the people of Naples, it celebrates the city that inspired their journey and further cements Pizza Pilgrims’ role as the UK’s champions of true Neapolitan pizza culture.
