Chapter 2 Launches in Southfields: The Biryani Centre’s Next Chapter

Nov 28th 2025

Southfields welcomes Chapter 2, a new evolution of The Biryani Centre, now open with a refined menu, refreshed identity and an elevated dining experience. While the original New Malden restaurant continues under The Biryani Centre name, Chapter 2 represents a new direction for the brand, one that may expand to future sites.

Created by Radhika Kamaraj and Thiru Rajendran, who first founded The Biryani Centre during lockdown, Chapter 2 brings a more intimate and characterful setting to Southfields. Known for warm hospitality and authentic South Indian cooking, the family has reimagined the space with reclaimed materials, vintage details and a design that reflects their passion for heartfelt, home-style food.

At the heart of the menu is a culinary identity shaped by history, family and generosity. Chapter 2 continues to serve the signature Dum Biryani, made with aged basmati rice, sofrito, milk and caramelised onions, alongside dishes such as aubergine curry and raita. Regional specialities include Chettinad Curries, Old Delhi Butter Chicken, as well as Southfield-exclusive plates like Mallu Broccoli and Murgh Malai Tikka.

For the first time, the restaurant will offer a five-course tasting menu, created exclusively for the Chapter 2 concept. Designed as a journey through the kitchen’s signature flavours, the menu begins with playful chaat-style snacks and tandoor-grilled small plates, before leading into a tasting of biryani and a warm dessert. This experience is not available at the original New Malden site.

A new cocktail menu complements the offering at Chapter 2, where familiar classics are reimagined with Indian influences, from regional ingredients and fresh herbs to unique house spice blends.

Chapter 2’s interiors feature reclaimed Chettinad materials and antiques. Majolica tiles, salvaged timber and vintage décor have been restored as dining tables, photography displays and serving boards. Many pieces have been sourced or restored from local suppliers, bringing new life to traditional craftsmanship while maintaining a warm, engaging atmosphere.

The restaurant occupies a former local favourite, previously home to Sarkhel’s, an Indian restaurant run by a former head chef of Bombay Brasserie. Chapter 2 continues that legacy with its own focus on community, sustainability and the joy of sharing great food.

Radhika Kamaraj says:
“With Chapter 2, we want to express The Biryani Centre in a new way, warm, personal and rich with flavour. Whether guests join us for a quick meal or the full tasting experience, our aim is always the same: for them to feel they’re being cooked for with love.”
